^ Then why did you reply?

500 and 250 give tonally differnt sounds. Gibson use 500 and fender use 250 I THINK...

Places like stew mac sell them, you'll probably get decent enough pots for like $10 or less.

Replacing the pots are simple. Just see where the old wires hook up before you remove the old pot. Draw out where these wires are on a piece of paper. Remove old pot and put in new, using your drawing to help figure out what wire goes where.

I think the 500k pots have a larger tonal range, not exactly sure on that though.

The the pickup configuration? Humbuckers usually use 500k, singles are geared more towards 250k.

www.guitarfetish.com sells pot pretty cheap

"My guitar"? What make and model? What pickups? It makes a difference.

Have you ever soldered? The control cavity of a guitar is not a good place to learn.

-Whats the difference between 250k and 500k ect.
It's the resistance of the element.
Choose the appropriate value according to the pickup(s) and the wiring configuration.

$50 pots!?

Never heard of them, but the quality of pots doesn't really make a difference in tone, just in how long they will last you. If it were me, I'd just get some 2-4 dollar pots, like mentioned, CTS pots are good and guitar fetish sells some cheap pots that'll last you.

Might also wanna put in a push-pull pot, which let's you coil split you pickups, although it'll require some re-wiring. But there are tons of diagrams out there that free, and make rewiring easy.

EDIT- I forgot guitar fetish carries Alpha, so I recommend buying from them.

-wow, great advice!

-I really appreciate that, helps me out a lot!

-so if i do the push-pull pot, I split my pickups and that gives a single coil sound. (correct me if I'm wrong) But if I used 500K pots will i get a good single coil sound?

-Any other advice or comments, I'd be more than happy to hear them!

Maybe that guy heard pot and though sombody was gonna torch one up. lol

I haven't any data on that guitar, but the wiring is parallel only.
Simple and straight-forward.
2 volume, 1 tone.
Since it's HBs, most likely 500k audio taper for all 3 controls.
Probably long shaft, because they mount to wood, rather than a pickguard.

Better pots won't sound any different. But they'll have a better "feel" (smoother) when you rotate them. They'll last longer before they make crackling noises when you adjust them.

CTS long shaft pots will cost you about $8~10 each, plus shipping.

Lots of sources for them. Here's one:

$50 pots???? Even the tonesnob type's choice; Allen Bradley or Bournes pots don't even cost that much; unless it's a set of 4.

Get a sprague orange drop capacitor while you're at it for your tone pot.(22 mfd) GFS carries them as well as the alpha pots, which are just as good as the CTS IMO. I've got both and I don't hear any major difference whatsoever. They're both awesome quality. I used to be all about CTS, but the alpha pots actually feel smoother with a little more turning resistance than the CTS pots, so I'd recommend the alphas.(500k for buckers)

The long shaft suggestion is a good idea if it's a carve top, but I think your best bet would be to drop a pot out by unscrewing the nut below the knob and finding out if it's a long shaft or not. Long shafts are used for carve top LP types that need the extra depth. I'm not so sure your guitar would need the long ones.

Yeah, splitting them will give a SC sound, and the 500k should sound fine with the split
