grade 8 is the highest. grade 6-8 also require a specialism (mine was slide guitar). each level is increasingly difficult... eg at grade 8 you can be asked to play ridiculously complex chords in 2 positions. the scale are easy enough. rhythym is pretty straightforward. lead playing is just improvising over a rythym pattern. the knowledge is where they ask you the purpose of the truss rod etc... the aural comprehension is where they play and you have to repeat what they played.

I don't know them off the top of my head but they're listed on the registry of guitar tutors home page: www.registryofguitartutors.com

I've taken Grade 4, 6 and 8 with RGT and never found them too difficult. Once your theory is down and you work on the things they want to see they aren't terrible. I always find the rhythm playing the hardest part. Away from jazz where do you see complex chords? I needed to do a lot of work on that.

Tbh all the grades are easy (it's just about memorising scales/theory) but RGT is the most useful. Rockschool is just a joke, whereas with RGT you learn stuff that is actually useful for your playing, like the scales, arpeggios, chords and theory.

I think the most challenging thing people find about the grades is the theory part, which can be overwelming if you've never done it before ^^. Being an A2 Music student, it's fine for me.

Did you just buy a fakebook too then for the complex chords?

Buy, erm ..... yeah.

Anyone thought about taking the Teachers Diploma? I graduate University with a degree in Music in about 10 weeks so i don't think its worth the £255 for me, but i know some people who have sat it. A qualification is a qualification.
