I'm having trouble with my picking transition time. This means that when I pick a series of notes they sound somewhat staccato and not very smooth like a lot of jazz players such as Lee Ritenour are able to manage. I realise that this is down to a fault in the coordination between my two hands and I was wondering whether there were any specific excercises or techniques that would help me in acquiring a smooth picking technique.

I feel very comfortable with my legato but when it comes to fast picking, such as that mastered by Steve Lukather, Lee Ritenour, Prince, John Petrucci and John Sykes I find I can't play in that fast picked style.

Thanks in advance...

The only thing you can really do is slow it down to a speed where you can play it and then speed it up gradually, aside from that we can't really help without clips of various kinds.
