Eww...God no.
Someones knowledge of guitar companies spelling determines what amps you can own. Really smart people can own things like Framus because they sound like they might be spelled with a "y" but they aren't.

I think that sounds like he's playing through a beehive personally. And either way, he's using a distortion AND an overdrive pedal at the same time. No amp will retain it's characteristics though that mess.

You take the worst video of the worst Mesa Boogie amp and make ridiculous generalizations about the entire brand?

This is how Mesa Boogie sounds: http://youtube.com/watch?v=v8pUqln36po

God I hate that thin-sounding distortion tone...

Whenever I play with that type of sound I notice I subconsciously start screwing with my vibrato to make it sound thicker... It's weird.

Whenever I play through good gear I honestly think I play better, just because I feel relieved that the tone is nice, thick, and solid and I don't need to overcompensate by playing too many notes.

Anyone else do something similar?

Either a Spider Valve or a Peavey Windsor.

I need something to play classic rock and metal.

Sounds like a Windsor to me then. I really didn't like the spider valve when I tried it. It was really finicky and I couldn't dial in a good sound except a good loud farting sound. Maybe it was defective?

Windsor would be pretty good yet its a little pain to get cleans and its only one channel so you wont be able to switch from clean to overdrive.

A farting amp??

But yeah, I'd go with the Windsor. I didn't like the Valve either....

Still too digital.

You're very true.

Just about everyone in this thread has been talking out of their ass. Not a single person has succeeded in mentioning that both clips are recorded with camera mics. Everyone has just stated, oh it does sound like an MG.

Judging by youtube's compression and camera micing quality, yes, vids of MG's, spiders, Vox's, Cubes, Mesa Boogie's, JCMs, XXX's, Diezel VH4's all sound pretty crappy for the most part.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VFjuhVT19Q

Thats a $4,800 VH4S through 2 $600 mesa boogie cabs with a $3000+ guitar. It's gotta sound amazing in person, yet awful on youtube.
Try this diezel tone out

Theres HUGE amounts of compression that occur when you upload a video to youtube. First off, it changes the audio to mono, and probably uses some sub-par software to do it. Oh yea, the mics used in these cameras also change the sound a lot. Please, dont ever take youtube vids seriously.

It's still an MG.

I've played plenty in person.

I think you took me wrong, I know the MG is complete bull****. I'm just explaining why the good ones sound bad.
