For some reason people seem to have trouble distinguishing the two.

Busking is the art of performing live music, dance, magic, or other entertaining acts in public places to solicit tips.

Panhandling is doing nothing for money, and busking is actual work.

Why do people consider buskers and panhandlers the same thing, and why do buskers often receive so little respect?

I didn't know the words for the 2, but I do notice the difference between a guy holding up a cup begging and a guy playing his guitar.

yes but you're not the general public. That's the mentality of most people, 'you're not that good, I've never heard of you'.

my friend got his saxophone taken away when he played it on the street one time. the mall cop who took it wouldn't give it back and he ended up dropping it. $50 dollars in repairs that the kid had to busk back elsewhere.
