Hi
My school has a talent quest coming up soon and i need to know what a good reasonably well known song would be to play solo(me and guitar, no singing). Anyone got any suggestions?

P.S Im about intermediate level.

Anything Dream Theater. Trust me, pull that off, and you got talent.

Hmm, no singing??? Do an instrumental acoustic in that case. Ocean buy JBT if you can manage it. I cant really think of anything else ATM. Definitely go acoustic though. I never found solo electric performances that impressive especially w/out lyrics.

What you could do is arrange a tune and play chord melodies. Find a simple but well liked tune and work out chord inversions in such a way that brings out the melodies. You coud also play classical guitar or a solo jazz piece. Another alternative would be to make/find a backing track of a tune (a rock guitar instrumental for example) and you can play the lead/solo parts.

Here are some examples of what playing solo, unaccompanied guitar should be like:

You don't want to play guitar that's meant to be played with a full ensemble because it will sound boring and out of place to the audience.

...modes and scales are still useless.

He may have talent, but no one will care if he plays a Petrucci solo without a whole band backing it up.

"Always and Never"- Coheed and Cambria

I think it could work with no vocals.

It's pretty simple, it's fun to play, and sounds good.
