Well, what are you going to be playing on it? It's kinda hard to rate an amp just based off of "is it good"?

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

If your into metal I would go with a 6505 combo, or a 5150 used. The 6505 new is 1200 dollars new and would put the Vk to shame. The VK is a good combo but really you can find a better amp for 900 dollars if go with a combo instead of a half stack. Look on ebay for a 5150/6505 combo they sell all day long for 500-700 dollars, and if I was into metal that would be the amp I would have personally. For metal I would give it 6.5-7 and the 5150 would be a 8.5-9
