I was wondering if people could list the bands / people that have been open about being influenced by Metallica. These are some of the ones I know:

Trivium (seriously, not sure if you can tell)
Ryan Peake (Nickelback guitarist)
Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge, former Creed)

This is for a paper for school so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't really imagine any of the bands I listen to being influenced by Metallica directly... I know I'm wrong, though.

I can't stand Metallica, I even got sick of playing Master of Puppets on the guitar.
I'm a communist. Really.

Those are the only ones I can think of that are very open about it, and now that I think about it I only knew Trivium were.

I have but anyone with a crappy voice who tries to sing could sound like Hetfield. It's not his fault he has a terrible voice... it happens...

Also Slayer said that they were influenced to become more extreme after seeing a Metallica show.

I have a magazine with Nickelback in it and their lead said that if it wasn't for Hetfield he never would have touched a guitar...

Godsmack, despite they're desire to duplicate every aspect of Alice in Chains, were also largely influenced by Metallica.

Disturbed have said that they are all big Metallica fans, too.

man i just listened to Trivium for the first time ever...

It sounds like a Hetfield side project! Like he's singing himself!

Almost every single metalcore band featured in Guitar World fellate Metallica's music.

"If it wasn't for *insert pre-Black Album Metallica* I wouldn't be where I am today."

Seriously, damn near every single metalcore band, hell even just regular rock bands eve, says something to that effect.

Considering that they were the first thrash band, they influenced metal to a pretty high degree...Especially when you consider that death metal and black metal both evolved out of thrash.

Ehh, they were the first thrash band to get mass attention, IMO.

The MC5, even though it was twenty years before, had, what we would call today, a thrash sound, not to mention "Kill'em All" was VERY strongly influenced by Motorhead, and some songs (IMO, anyway) even sound like straight rip offs, even Hetfield tried to get that gruffness like Lemmy.

Metallica hasnt influenced anybody. all they did was steal Dave's music. it is Megadeth who has influenced a generation of metal musicians.

You're an idiot.

Almost every metal band has been influenced by Metallica, whether it's directly or indirectly.

Linkin park aren't heavy. They are overproduced, lifeless twaddle.

Ever listened to 'No Life 'Til Leather'?
Early versions of songs from Kill 'Em All with Dave playing. Listen to Kill 'Em All and listen to the huge difference between Kirk and Dave's playing. Dave initially wrote the solos but Kirk made them into what we know and love.
Besides, all the stuff from Kill 'Em All (Which is 90% of all the material Dave left behind), albeit a cool album, its just pretty much relentless shred with little or no musical structure. Kirk's original solos on the album are much better musically and he took Dave's solos to new heights.
After that, they just get better until AJFA, when the decline starts.

As for bands influenced by them; Machine Head, Trivium, Nickelback, Pantera, Cannibal Corpse, BFMV, Fightstar, Mastodon, Dream Theater, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, Chimaira, Mendeed.. the list goes on. Even Snoop Dogg did a cover of Sad But True.
