alright people, here's my problem i hope you can help with.

My wonderful country (Singapore) sells only 2 versions of steve vai's signature series.

A) Ibanez JEM 555 - S$2,407

B) Ibanez JEM 333 (JEM JR) - S$963

what i want to know is which one to get? is the 555 REALLY worth twice the amount for? and what's with all this fake buisness anyway?

they're not fake, they're just not very good - buy an RG prestige instead and you'll get a much better guitar.

i live in singapore as well. i also would not go for the steve vai model. unless you really have your heart set on this specific model, then dont go for it. go to swee lee, tell the guys how much you are willing to spend, and then tell them what you are looking for in a guitar. then can almost always recommend better guitars than the one you are thinking of buying. trust me.

Dont get the JEM. any of them. You'll be paying a huge premium for the vine inlays, dimarzios and monkey grip.

Yeah. people, like Lemoninfluence, are hypocrites and should have all their opinions invalidated from here on out.

Arguably every guitar you pay some sort of premium because of the aesthetics.

However, you are paying a premium because it is a signature guitar, not because the aesthetics. There are much, much cheaper guitars with elaborate inlays and other aesthetic features.

Unless you are really set on getting a JEM, I would probably just get a RG Prestige.

hm. actually i just thought the damn thing looked cool...

and so i have to save more.

$1337 for the RGT42DX, and a whooping $2.4k for the RG2570. yes, i'm looking at the online catalogue.

Your paying the premium for the fact that its steve vai's guitar not the actual asthetic additions (although they would be more even if it wasnt a sig guitar)

For those "Vai" players, can the prestige FR really stand up to his songs as much as a JEM would?

It is just a standard Edge Pro bridge, the same bridge on prestige RG models. There is just a lil extra routing on the JEM models to allow for more pitch raising movement, but I doubt its that differnt

RGs are basically a JEM without the handle. Anything a JEM can do, they can too... except be carried around by the handle.

You could fashion a handle out of all the cash you saved not buyin a JEM.

Its the aesthetics that make it a signature guitar. Without the gold hardware, vine of life inlay and monkey grip, its a pretty bog-standard guitar. Vai's actual guitars are all custom shop and cost about £3000 ($6000), and those are just the prototypes
