I currently have an Ibanez S470 and I'm playing it through a Roland Cube 60. Is it worth getting EMG's put in or should I save for a new amp? I'm looking for a better tone on high distortion. Thanks.

honestly it depends on what you want.

they have been proven time and time again for metal music, plenty of bands use and endorse them. at the same time you can use passive pickups for the same stuff but you will just have a different sound. its really all about what you want to hear when you plug the guitar up and play it.
Microsoft Works...there's and oxymoron for you.

actives kill the natural tone of your guitar but your guitar will only sound as good as your amp will let it

new amp first, try a 6505 or a used 5150..

but then get emg actives (81/85) because, yes, they are worth it.

This is in the wrong section, but apperntly solid state amps cant handle EMGs so get a top quality tube amp.

there kinda expensive but it could improve tone somewhat, but its the amp that makes most of the tone

Alright thanks for the responses, and I thought installing new pickups came under the category 'customizing'?

Well installing them would, but asking whether they are good pickups would come under Electric guitars, or GG&A since you can buy guitars with EMGS in already, you may not actualy be customising anyhthing lol
