hey everyone!

I have a big bro that plays bass.
He wants a new amp cuz he only has a 15W CRATE that rly sucks.
He mostly plays punk rock and he was looking something about 600-800 bucks(500-700&euro. what do you suggest? he doesn't want a behringer(or whatever they are) cuz he tried some and they suck...they're just loud with no quality. He was already looking at some amps but he wants you UGers to help him out a bit.
He plays for 4-5 months and we're having a gig soon.
He wants a gig playable amp(small-mid sized).
Thanks for your help.

+1 to Ashdown, great bass amps. A MAG300 should suit him well.

hey...me again...
he started to really like these amps.
what do you guys think?
should he get MAG300H with 4x10 cab (http://www.thomann.de/gb/ashdown_mag_300h_bundle.htm)
or with 8x10 cab? (http://www.thomann.de/gb/ashdown_mag_300h_bundle_2.htm)
with 4x10=535€=795$
with 8x10=777€=1.115$

lemme know what you think.

Actually, the 4x10 isn't that heavy. I own the 4x10 halfstack.

Personally, I'd just go with the 4x10, though the 8x10 does look cool, but THAT is going to be super heavy, weird to carry and hard to fit in a car. If I were to get a full stack, it'd probably be the 4x10 cab and a 1x15 cab for two different kinds of sounds.

I think the cab only weighs like 65lbs? I could be wrong, maybe it's 80 or so, but it's a smaller cab so it's not awkward to carry. I can easily carry it down stairs by myself. The head weighs nothing compared to a tube head, plus it has handles, you can carry it with one hand without problem

not to high jack the thread but how much wattage would a bass amp need to keep up with a pair of blues jr's and drums... my friends looking to buy one but only wants to spend 200-300 on it lol he'll probably have to settle with something loud and not-so-great soudning... any ideas?

Epi standard les paul
Taylor 110 acoustic
Fender blues junior amp

I've never tried a bass amp under 100W, but it was able to keep up with drums. Friend of mine uses a Fender Rumble 100 in his band and is loud enough for their practices. You could probably actually get away with less wattage if you put the amp up on a stand somewhere ear level and pointed the amp towards the drummer, etc. An old bassists in one of my bands had a 20W amp I believe it was and though it wasn't too loud I was still able to hear it if we didn't play real close to my amp and had it elevated to us.

Idealy you probably want it on the ground and in a corner or up against a wall somewhere though so you can capture more bass from the amp. But bass doesn't always cut through when the guitar and drums are louder

Eh, to be honest, I think you'd be better off with Ashdown in that price range. If you're willing to double your budget, then I'd look into the Ampegs, but at the budget you're at right now Ashdown is where it's at.

Thank you...
I think I'll go with the Ashdown MAG 300H EVO II and the MAG 810 DEEP cab.
I'm sure it'll rock!
