muted strumming is a very good idea! for my school band, we did a competition from the Ontario Band Association. After the competition, we got a performance clinic from one of the ejudicator. One of the things he suggested that we do is to "bop" our parts as a whole band. Basically, everyone plays their notes short no matter how long you're supposed to hold. It let us hear every part in the composition that we never heard before.

By muting the strumming, you'll really hear the rhythmic patterns in strumming. great idea!
