I think every guitarist has a LP because of the Craftmanship of a good LP, but Eric Clapton and Keith Richards mainly use Fenders, Keith has a Tele with A LP pick up and no low E String and some weird tuning, but your friend needs to do some research

The question was who plays a Les Paul as their main instrument, that certainly takes Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler and Joe Walsh out of the equation as none of these play a Les Paul as their prime instrument.
I wish I had tallent and ability.

I have a LP style guitar, so that's one more.
My lead guitarist uses a Gibson Studio
Opeth's guitarists have both used LP's
So that's 4 more without really thinking

Joe walsh's main guitar from james gang until joining the Eagles in 76 was a les paul. That was almost all he would play. He even was nice enough to give one of his 59 Les pauls to a guitarist in a new band called led zeppelin. Jimmy Page also mainly played Les Pauls.

i think your friend watched a little too much mtv

seriously how the hell does he think the lespaul became such an icon, did he get dropped on his head at 5 months or something?

This man is right, in fact, when I saw him in concert I believe he used 2 different Les Pauls, among probably 8 other guitars.

Has anyone mentioned Peter Frampton?

Travis Stever also uses LP's pretty much exclusively.

His isn't actually a stock Les Paul. He winds his own pickups, and the controls and just the design of the guitar in general isn't a "traditional" Les Paul.....
Do YOU know who Les Paul is?
