I'm currently at school and was just wondering how many pit dwellers actually care about school and do the work. I for one get excellent grades because I want to make lots of money. What about the rest of UG!
#2
I know I should care, but I really don't, i'm just too lazy, and do a half-assed job of everything.

I care a lot, because I want to go to university and become a teacher, so obviously good grades are going to matter. I just like learning too, I find college interesting.

School truly TRULY is overrated. As long as you have some common sense, a likeable attitude and working limbs, pretty much anyone can get a job. School is only for people that want to become a doctor, lawyer, dentist ect. otherwise if you want to be a musician, you just need to know how to play an instrument properly. want to be an actor, you need to know how to act. want to be a tattoo artist, you need to be an exceptional artist. Most of these skills you learn on your own or through apprenticeship. Garbagemen make $45'000 a year roughly. That's more than teachers.
#18
its really weird my grade goot good a year ago and i just can concentrate any more its really sucks as last year i was set to get a b in english in the mocks i gt an f. any one else got this problem?

Good advice..like me im going into electrical engineering...simply because i excell in the electrical front in school and enjoy that part

But to be honest i dont need any grades for the course im doing at college...its just because id rather learn everything about the job practicly...because when it comes to acctually doing your job...

Academic letters on some paper dont mean anything for some jobs...

Pfft, crappy reference. My response/reference; Yes, you do; you've just used a double negative.

Edit: Oh but yeah I care cos I'm gonna be working in the IT field, need lots of specialist skills for that. Hopefully I'll be a system security analyst, which is basically someone who can hack and get paid for it legally

you need education. it's as simple as that. i know there are the idiots out there thinking they can become someone famous or have a great job without it, but honestly, they wont. you need at least a high school degree to get anywhere in life. those who disagree are just ignorant.
#24
I dropped out of high school a year ago but i'm going back to school in september.

But i'm not going back to get an education or that kind of crap I just need friends and a band

I agree with some of your post, a basic level of education is always needed, but not everyone wants/needs a PhD in Physics or Engineering. I'd rather have a lower paid job that I was happy in than a higher paying job that made me want to kill myself. Which do you think would require the most education?

To be honest you could just **** school and still get a good paid job, like a house builder or something. :/
#30
I used to not give a crap, but I then realised I have to. I've already secured my college place, but good GCSEs are essential. So now I hardly ever miss school, I've spent at least 5 hours this week catching up with coursework and revising for my exams in May.

I just got my English paper back with an A* with not a lot of effort at all. Things are looking up

i care alot about education
realising my bro is screwed coz he has two gsces he hasnt been kicked out of ands hes got es in those

My Dad is a 'house builder' and now my brother is doing his apprenticeship in Carpentry with my Dad. It still needs good GCSEs, you need someone to take you on and teach you the trade. Plus, its a 3 year thing, so a part time job might be needed.

So yeah, you can't skip school and expect to walk straight into a trade (or any career for that matter).

On the plus side, its pretty decent money

No, I don't care about education, I care about qualifications. If something contributes towards a GCSE or an A-level, then I see it as important enough to pursue, because I don't want to leave school without qualifications. But I deem regular work unimportant so I put minimal effort in or just don't do it.
I play by my own rules. And I have one rule; There are no rules... but if there are, they're there to be broken. Even this one.

Confused? Good.

I know i should care and work hard. I'm just far to lazy and barely do any work.

I have been told for 7 years that "you are not reaching your potential". To be honest i want things to change i just can't see it happening.

I see half of my - actually rather intelligent - friends head to a life of infected syringes and junkdom. Even if I make it in music, instead of journalism, I still want to get a decent degree - hopefully at Oxford; not just as a path to my domination of Earth and the Universe, even though it will help, but because I feel great and relaxed when I know I'm doing well.

Yeah, I care about education, but only if it's done right. I like learning for learning's sake, but only if it's interesting and will benefit me later. I prefer learning through discussion and experience, but in a school environment.

Education is never overrated, but school definitely can be.
#40
I never cared for school, it just pissed me off. I care for college though.

However, I think the education we are forced to learn is shit; all we get taught now is what is on the exams, and how to pass some exam at the end of the year. What they don't teach us is what we will need in later life, the necessities. It's all about passing some damn exam and getting big-ass A's posted everywhere about you; not actually about the real world and how to prepare for it once you leave school.

Just my opinion anyway.
You cannot choose the little time you're given in this world. You enter bare and unclothed, provided only with intelligence enough to choose how you spend your time. You always have a choice. Always. Though be warned, your choice can rarely be undone
