I recently became an organ donor and opted to allow removal of all/any of my organs except my heart.

I am in no way spiritual or religious and dont believe I need my heart after my death, but something makes me feel uneasy about my heart being removed post mortem.

Who among you are donors and what organs did you opt to keep or give?

What are your feelings on the subject of organ donation?

What of the Heart?

I did the same not too long ago.

They're gonna take all my organs. My theory is that I don't need them any more, and they could help drastically improve someone else's life.

I think it's just selfish to withhold your organs without a very good reason.

I believe you should donate unless you have religious reasons not to.

I didn't bother, because chances are all of my transplantable organs will be completely fucked from years of eating lots of red meat, drinking, smoking and doing drugs.

I ticked the box on my driving license application, so I'm a donor. I just picked everything because I figured I won't need them when I die. I think I noticed one of the things was skin though, which would be really weird...
#13
I would donate all my organs. I dont need them anymore, and it could save someone elses life.
#14
They're welcome to everything when I die, yes I'm a donor.

in the US you have to be 18, and you usually just check something on your DL.

Can I have more info on this donor thing?

How old do you have to be?

no idea, i'm guessing 17 because they ask you when signing up for your provisional license... that worried me slightly...

Also it will save money for your loved ones so they don't need to have a funeral.

no they still bury your body (unless you donate your body to research) in organ donation they just remove the transplantable organs and then embalm you normally.

Well I won't need my body once I die, so as far as I'm concerned they can fix it and put someone else's brain in it. Like a new car.
Nope, no sig here.

I ticked the boxes on the provisional drivers license application form. I didn't tick the cornea though. I just thought that it'd be weird to have your eyes messed with after death. I may change that eventually and especially as I further my medical career and find out more about visual diseases of the cornea.
#24
I'm donating all my organs, although I want my skeleton and hollow body kept and buried.

So you know you have to "opt-in" to get yourself donated? Have you heard that the government are trying to introduce an "opt-out" scheme, whereby EVERYONE has themselves donated unless they take the responsibility and go and tell the NHS they don't want to be donated.
I think it's an amazing idea; shortages of bodily stuffs is becoming severe.
I hope it doesn't seem, like I'm young, foolish, and green.
Let me in for a minute, you're not my life but I want you in it

Well to be honest if it wasn't included on the same form as something that most people apply for then most people wouldn't bother registering to donate their organs. When I fill out my provisional form I'll be saying it's OK to donate my organs.

Just a question to all, what do you feel about suggestions to change the organ donation system to opt-out rather than op-in

I wrote an essay about that exact topic last semester so I know quite a bit about it. The USA actually has a better scheme:

Quote by My-Essay
The United States of America (USA) operates a strategy of ‘required request’,3 known as ‘required referral’, where if a patient is declared as dead following testing of the brain stem, a request must be made enquiring about the possibility that their organs could be donated, and until this request has been issued, any life support machines must not be switched off. The USA has the second highest rate of donors after Spain, with 23.5 donors per million people.

I still think the 'opt-out' idea is better. People chose not too when they are alive if they are against it, people who don't care become donors so their bodies don't go to waste, everyone wins...

Uh, I don't really know where to go to become a donor Otherwise, I have no problems with them taking everything.

Well, unless it goes to someone I wouldn't want to have it.

Hmm. Can I put guidelines for the use of my organs? I'll make a questionnaire, and the person will only get to have my organs if they pass.

When I get my permit I think I'll become an organ donor. It's not like I'm gonna be using them when I'm gone so I might as well help someone in need.

Its never to early to make a Will.

And the part about the person you might not want to have it, normally the persons on the list are on there by priority and their current health habits. So a drunk won't be getting your liver or kidneys. So you probably wouldn't have to worry about that, unless you just persona;y didn't like them, lol.

I opted out. However, I've had a variety of medical difficulties, and there could be a chance they stick around. I wouldn't want someone taking my organs and then getting ill from it.

I like to think if i came into the world with all this stuff in me, i'm gonna leave this world with all this stuff in me.
Plus if there is an afterlife and you were an organ donor, YOUR F*CKED!

I guess that depends on your religion. Most of the religions i know of are more about your soul and not your body but then again like i said it depends on your religion.

While there in there getting your heart and your lungs and kidney, you don't think they'll just grab the soul for the sake of it. ???

ive heard terrible things about families being pressured to take people (who still potentially had a decent shot of survival) off life support so they can get the organs faster

yea ill donate, but id have to be 100 percent no way coming back dead

that includes searching for the dragonballs lol

I'm a signed up donor.

They can have everything but my eyes.

I don't know why I decided I want to keep my eyes, but I do.

They're not very good anyway, I have genetic astigmatism
