I'm wondering which one would be the better choice.. Distortion-wise I'm looking for those thick palm-mutes (Think: Chugga-Chugga) and for the distortion to be rich and not thin.

For the Modded VK I'll probably mod it with:
Groove (?) 6L6's
Tung-Sol 12AX7
Celestion Vintage 30

Cleans are somewhat important aswell, would like to have decent cleans.

Its mostly going to be used for modern metal type stuff, Metalcore, some Children of Bodom stuff.

the valveking is a great tube amp for the money, but its not to great for distortion. id go with the randall.

Semi bump...

So even after 100+ dollars of upgrades you guys think the Randall would still be better?

the VK distortion is pretty good IMO especially for the price. but instead of new tubes get a tube screamer/some sort of other od/boost. the only reason youd need new tubes is if you really wanted a different "flavor" distiortion or because they blew out. the tubescreamer or any kind of OD/boost will tighten things up that gives you a nice CHUGGA CHUGGA sound. but still get the new speaker. its like taking off a blanket off your amp as cliche as that may be

It sure is......

Anyways...

I was wondering about a VK also.

Would it be good for classic rock? (Think AC/DC but a little heavier)

just to be clear, you think that putting new tubes in an amp is "modding" it?

Dude I know that isnt a "mod" but who the hell cares. Add something positive to the thread rather than something redundant please.

For chuggy drop tuned whatsits? Yea, but that's it. I'd take a VK with a Classic Lead and new tubes over a RG50TC for anything else.

I think so, but I'm a little crazy sometimes.
