Heya everyone,
I'll be updating my gear pretty soon and I'm hoping to get a valve amp. I've only ever used solid state so I need a bit of help picking something that doesn't suck. At the moment I've got a Cube 60.
*Budget: $3000-$4000 Australian dollars for head + cab, or combo.
*I play lots of different genres. I'll need a good clean channel but also one with decent gain. I'll have a few pedals so effects aren't a major worry.
*I'll be buying it from a store in particular because I can get it cheaper so there's a limit to brands I can purchase. Some brands included are Marshall, Orange, Laney, Line 6, Behringer, Hartke, Vox.
I've recently been looking at the Marshall DSL50 which looks pretty good or possibly the Orange Rockerverb 50 Combo.
Basically I'm not sure yet whether to get a head + cab or a combo.
Any recommendations to what sort of amp to get or what brands would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance,
Lauz

From the amps you listed, the Orange would be a winner IMO. Can't go wrong there.

"Decent gain"

Expand please. Orange sounds good but you're going no further than Classic Rock.

Yeah decent gain was a bit iffy. Couldn't think of what to say. Basically the clean channel is most important because I've got pedals. Orange seems popular so would the Rockerverb 50 Combo be a good idea? Or try the head + cab? Which is more expensive but I could push the budget.

No pedals beat the OD on the Orange. Just saying.

Apparently you have never played a Rockerverb or Thunderverb.

Apparently I used to own one and even with a boost (horrible feedback max gain +boost) I still couldn't get a metally chug from it.

Plus it has no FX loop so some of your pedals might not sound good. 50 watt does though iirc.

A Tiny Terror goes beyond classic rock easily. A Rockerverb 50 has stoopid amounts of gain.
