There's been a record player laying around in my house for years, but I haven't gotten around to using. A week ago, I tried playing a record on it, but the pitch kept going up and down. I tried this for some other records, and it all had the same problem. What should I do to fix it?
Any number of things could be wrong. Sounds like there turntable is not turning at a constant speed, so either the voltage to the motor is varying or there is some mechanical resistance that is varying. Could be a dirty crank shaft?
make sure your needle is on properly and isn't worn out if the above doesn't help
