What artists do you most try and emulate. If not emulate, what artists inspire you to do what it is you do.

Personally my style and inspiration comes from a small group of individuals.

Songwriting - Rivers Cuomo/Jack White/Kurt Cobain
Guitar Style - Tom Morello/Jack White/Dan Auerbach
Music Philosophy - Ian Mackaye/Tom Morello

Real original, muffin.

For me it's people I've played in bands with, along with composers.

My friend Jen, for instance, is a huge influence on me musically. I've played alongside MANY talented musicians, but never anyone nearly as talented, nor as versatile as she is with instruments. That girl can play everything from flute, to trombone, to alto saxophone, and due to..well just the type of musician I've always known her to be (We met in music class actually xD), she inspires me to be a better musician.

Outside of friends and bandmates, Jaco Pastorius is a major influence on me, along with Joe Zawinul, Clarence Clemmens, J.S. Bach, and Steven Reineke.

If you want me to break it down...

Playing style: Jaco Pastorius, Joe Zawinul, Clarence Clemmens
Composing style: Joe Zawinul, J.S. Bach, Steven Reineke
All-round inspiration: Friend

Well, if I were to break it down...

Heavy aspect of my music - Gojira, Strapping Young Lad
Melodic aspect of my music - Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Devin Townsend
Dark and/or symphonic aspect - Emperor, early Dimmu Borgir, various random black metal songs

I like to call my music Blackened Progressive Death Metal, not because it's a legitimate subgenre, simply because it makes me feel like a badass. I also can't really think of any other label for it.
