There's nothing about the SG that prevents shredding in any way.

I play some fast runs every once in a while on my LP. A lot of people thinks it's impossible to shred on LPs, SGs and Telecasters and such. It's not the guitar that's shredding, it's the player. Get it into your thick heads!!!

SGs have unlimited upper fret access so theyre not bad for shredding. LPs it can be done, the guy from testement used one for a while. hell it can be done on pretty much any guitar.

exactly, if someone can't do it on a les paul, what makes people think they will magically be able to play anything when they pick up an ibanez rg or such

I shred on t3h SG?
Neck's kinda big though, but it helps me with hand strength, so when I grab my CFH I can wail.

Chatreeo has ****LOADS of guitars.

Theoretically, you can shred on any guitar. I can't shred, but I play equally well on any guitar, provided the strings aren't an inch above the fretboard.
Although I do feel a difference between necks, it's not like fat necks slow me down and thin necks let my play faster. It's all about comfort. They don't make it easier to play.

It's like comparing skinny or loose jeans. Everyone has their own ideas in what's comfortable, but if they wear the other kind, they can still walk normally. As long as they don't drop or squeeze your balls.

Conclusion: everything within the boundaries of "physically playable" is shredable.

i mean, shredding is much easier on a Jackson then it is one a gibson or epiphone, take my word for it (check my sig) but if your crafty you can get around the les pauls extremley inconveniant body shape and shred. kirk Hammet uses les pauls (allthough hes not a very advanced shredder). I guess it wouldnt be the best idea if you were only doing shred but it can definatly be done.

Ever heard of a guy called Zakk Wylde? I hear he uses Les Pauls a lot...

and that guy on the SG needs to clean up his playing a lot.

and if it's worth anything, i can shred up a storm on my SG and my Les Paul.

Firstly, I don't like the implication that just because I mentioned one player with a bad reputation that I don't know what shred is; I own the album Nottingham Lace is on so leave me alone.

Secondly, I don't like this thing going around about Zakk being sloppy, he really isn't; his tone is just muddy as hell.

Gary Moore plays pretty fast on an LP on "Blues Alive." SG's are some of the fastest necks around.
