There are some YCV40s and YCV80s on my local craigslist. How would these fair for metal with a pedal? Im looking for rich, thick distortion, chugga chugga style haha.

With the right pedals it should do it easily.

Would it actually sound good? Or just sub-par

They are very low gain amps. Try the YCV50BLUE, I can get some pretty decent metal tones out of it, but if you will probably want a OD pedal of some sort also.

The 80's probably the better metal amp.

Compared to say a RG50TC, which would be the better amp? I would assume that the RG50TC would do metal better?

The Randall would probably do metal better, but the Traynor is simply the higher quality amp. I'd rather have the Traynor and a pedal.
