Howe would i emulate an ebows sound..would it be volume knob/pedal, long echo and lots of distortion?
sounds right, dunno if youd really need the distortion as much...

I can't imagine anything worse than shagging to Mark Knopfler.

Maybe shagging Mark Knopfler, but that's about it.
A fair amount of gain, lotsa bass, some reverb, and you have to stand close to your amp.
Then, once you find the "sweet spot" around your amp, giving you unseemingly endless sustain, add some vibrato and play with the volume knob to your liking.

Long-ish delay, decent amount of gain, and a metal slide of some sort. Rub the slide over the strings, creates a sort of etheral violin sound.....should work for you....

The hotbar should be floating parallel to the principle axis at this point. Next, take a hammer, and beat yourself in the face while crying JIHAD. problem fixed.
