Ok, I have to get this off of my chest. Well, I was thinking about why is sex seen as such a taboo in America, (I don't know about the rest of the world) when the majority of people do it atleast once in thier lives. Then it hit me about how much less of a deal killing someone on T.V. or in a video game. (I'm referring to the Mass Effect thing here) Like the annihilation of someone is seen as alot more ok than making a person. I don't get this at all. I mean if nudity was in a TV show than a bunch of people would freak the **** out, but people are killed on television all the time and no one raises thier voice. I'm not saying promiscuous sex is ok in television and should be on everynight, but I think that if they are gonna say no sex. They should also say no violence, but then that would be boring. It is a double standard they should have both or niether if they want to be morally right in my opinion.

Sex was a very public thing back when the Greeks and Romans were around, too.

Indeed, it was even important in political life to frequent higher class brothels.

Possibly because sex is much more controlled in the States?

Yeah I just am saying that is stupid to make it seem like sex is worse than violence I mean, yeah there is dangers in sex, but there is a safe sex. Under no exception is there a safe form of violence someone will get hurt in a violent act no matter what.

I think our culture has a very apathetic view of death in entertainment, I mean it has become so insignificant we've become desensitized in way. In movies and TV people just kill other people without thinking about how they just ended a life.

Sex is the result of a million years of evolution and human nature and I don't understand why people fight it so much. Miami Dade just removed Human Growth and Development from the curriculum and now only promoting abstinence. That's just sad.

It's not a hard concept. They want to push morals. If they push anti-violence, there will be a lot more people not standing for our violent tendencies when we try to spread democracy.

But, in all honesty.. I dunno if you're an American.. But have you ever seen some of our shows and commercials? There is nothing BUT sex in our culture. The fact that porn is more mainstream than ever before makes this conversation completely irrelevant.

So glad someone agrees with me you said it better I think. That is what I have a problem with the desensitization of an entire generation. I'm not being one of those who are like it is all violent videogames fault. It's equally movies and tv's fault. The problem I honestly think is in what the streotypical male is. The violent loving beer drinking man. That is the wrong image of what someone should be in my opinion I mean it is too late to change anything, but it just feels wrong.

i remember soneone argueing this a while back and they said people should fine with sex because its a part of life and violence should not be a part of life so why should we show sex over violence

I am an American and yes there is sex, but sex often times is viewed alot worse than violence. I mean on movie ratings or game ratings violence gets you teen while sex will get you M. So what does that tell you? Legally you need to be 18 to see something sexually explicit but violence you need to be 13.

Most video game stores I've been to card you for the more graphically violent video games, and most video games that have sexuality in them tend to have more graphic violence, so I dunno what you're talking about. Examples of video games, please?

The same goes for a lot of record stores, as they're supposed to card us for PA stickered records, which is generally due to sexual talk, not violence.

I agree with TS, it's sort of ridiculous how the two things are viewed. However I just learn to ignore it, most smart people will be able to figure out what is bad and what isn't such as yourself.

So even if they show that stuff in the media you just don't watch it.

Well, ok this is rated M for both violence and sex but there was a segment on Fox News and I'm more refferring to the conservatives and fundamentalists that are saying what is good for our youth but here is the video. http://youtube.com/watch?v=L13Ct40cFIU&feature=related I've played the game and love it but I'm saying the sadness that they don't usually stop violent games (except for when a school shooting occurs)

That's friggin' hilarious! The idea that FOX of all people would piss and moan about sexuality in media is great. I guess they canceled all their reality TV shows. I think you're looking at it from the wrong point of view. There are some people who are demonizing sex in the media, and obviously people glorifying it. I just don't see it as a problem that a bunch of conservatives are getting their panties in a bunch over things they've never experienced.

But in order to make everyone in this country happy, it needs to be a mock snuff film. That way, the people who love violence will be happy, the people who love sex will be happy, and the people who like to piss and moan about both to make themselves feel superior will be happy.

And, I agree, TS. But, basically, if my memory serves me correctly, Queen Victoria started the trend of outlawing it on a mass scale.

It was sometime in the late 1800s and early 1900s when leaders REALLY started cracking down on it in the media and in our lives, such as prostitution, which wasn't made illegal until the 1920s in America.

So, in terms of TV and such, you can start by blaming them.

Ha, yeah, true. They're even taught about it at really young ages, like four, I think.

And, also, anytime I think about that, it reminds me of this picture.

the way i see it is Sex for the most part represents love, violence represents hate. So what were saying is its ok to hate in the most extreme way but not love in the most extreme way??? I think it is part of our culture that sex is demonized and many people see it as "degrading to women" even tho its ok to show peoples heads get blown off. The fox news thing made me sick, i want to punch all those people (except for that one guy) in the face.

I don't know many people having sex for love. Especially not on TV. They're not complaining because of the sex, they're complaining because of the casualness of the sex.
