Has anyone read the book Anthem by Ayn Rand? It's a great book set in a future world where individuality isn't accepted and one guy steps away from the mindless human herd and thinks for himself, I have a hard time explaining this book. I wanted to read Anthem because I love the Rush song Anthem and I heard the book is good, I'm about 3/4 through it right now.

yes i read it in english class. It was actually one of the few books i read and enjoyed both while reading it and once i was finished. usually i only like books read in english after reading them and realizing how good they were. But it is quite good

Just don't read The Fountainhead. Worst pile of **** ever. 900-something pages of Ayn Rand discoursing on what a stupid ***** she is.

Foutainhead sucked. Anthem owned. Atlas Shrugged was a pile of **** thrown in a corner to fester.

Anyone who reads Ayn Rand and takes it to heart will be an asshole for at least 3 months.

Stay away from her kids. Objectivism breads monsters.
Poor advice.

A lot of people hate Ayn Rand, I don't know anything about Objectivism, I just know it's a philosophy. What does Objectivism mean to you guys?

Objectivism is the philosophy of being a selfish ass who puts himself above others.
Poor advice.

It's an individualist crock of shit.

Personally, her style of writing is great. Her character structures and attention to detail are fantastic. The Fountainhead is a very good read...

....But there's that little problem called Objectivism that prevents me from enjoying anything she does.
Poor advice.

So for all of you Objectivism bashers, do you have any better philosophies to live by? Or any serious reasons why Objectivism won't work?

No one says it doesn't work, I just personally don't like it. This is all about opinion.

Maybe it's the fact that I don't give a shit about myself that propels me to focus all of my energy on those around me like my loved ones and friends. I'm not doing well right now financially, but I'm happy being unimpressive.
Poor advice.
