If I have a 5-way 3-terminal pickup switch and my neck pickup has coil tap output, can I attach the coil tap output to the middle terminal for tapped neck in the middle position with no ill effects? Will it short my entire system out if I have it in between middle and neck in this combination?

The reason I want to do this in case anyone was wondering is that I have a stacked humbucker "single coil" in the middle that sucks ass and I want single-coil neck sounds without adding a push-pull pot.

If you mean connecting your series link to the middle lug instead of having the middle pickup connected there, yes. You can do that.

No ill effects? Depends on what you mean.

Shorting everything out? No. That won't happen.

Odd sequence? Yes.

Neck HB
Neck in single coil mode.
Neck in single coil mode.
Neck in single coil mode + Bridge
Bridge

5 positions, but two of them are the same.

There IS a way to wire it, so you get 5 choices.

For instance:

Neck HB
Bridge + Neck HB
Bridge
Bridge + Neck in single coil mode
Neck in single coil mode

But alas, i haven't the pinout for my switch!

Either way what you said was fine. I only ever use the bridge and neck anyway (the most extreme positions) so I don't care.
