Ok so I decided to change the pickups in my basswood RG350DX... but I am debating between the EMG 81/85, Duncan JB/59 and the Duncan JB/Jazz. I am also considering DiMarzios but I've never played them.

What do you guys think I should put in? I want a punchy sound in the bridge but a nice bright sound in the neck. I heard that the EMGs work well in basswood bodies.

Also I currently have the 81/60 combo in my EC-1000 - can I swap the 60 for an 85 without having to change pots or do any re-wiring?

Thanks guys.

Cool I have an Ibanez RG350MDX, I also upgraded the pickups to EMG 81/85. I just love them if you play lots of metal then thats for you, I don't know about other pickups though

Considering its basswood, the JBs may not be THE best to use.

Active pickups on a basswood would be a good idea, but maybe they'll be too OTT for the sound you described.

EDIT: New amp. Would improve your current sound and get what you want. Geart pickups + crap amp is not good.

well, why do you want new pick-ups when you dont even know what your guitar is going to sound like through your new amp?

Well because I've played the ESP Ninja with the 81/85 through the Roland Cube 30x and it sounded amazing... plus I jam twice a week at my buddies house on his half stack... even on a crappy amp I can tell that the 60 is way too muddy for me. And the RG lacks that punch that it needs, even on a bigger amp..

Less than 300 to be honest - probably not enough for a good tube amp?
