Well I'm new to this site but not necessarily to playing guitar. I've been playing a couple years but never really "learned" anything. Just piddled around with tabs and random songs. I've finally gotten to the point where I am starting to get pretty passionate about playing and am finding myself really yearning to get much, much better.

I am in school right now, was in school for music for a semester then switched and am a college kid so I don't have a lot of time or extra money for lessons. I was wanting to get a few good books and begin to teach myself everything I'll need to know including theory, good practice techniques, improvisational skills, ect... Can you guys recommend me a few? Or may I ask if you guys can give me some pointers on where I should be going?

I really appreciate it guys, thanks!

i used the hal-leonard books they got me going but didnt really do the trick for me i've learned more myself and gotten alot better by just playing around in retrospect or situations are completely backwards

I checked those out. I just really learn better out of a book with a starting point. I know there's alot of books out there on the subject I just didn't know which ones are good and which ones are no good.

Thanks
