Anybody have any idea how to age metal/chrome?

example: I really like the look of aged hardware on a guitar and i want to do something like that on my own but i dont want to have to look for already aged hardware. Is there anyway i can buy new stuff and stress it to look aged? Is that possible?

Thanks for any help

what i did was made a concoction. i used Highly Corrosive toilet bowl cleaner, Vinegar, and water.

i think it was like, 55% water, 40% vinegar and 5 % cleaner.

watch it though, and when it gets done, soak it in water and dry thoroughly.

What I used to do is get a small container of muriatic acid and put it in a larger container with the parts inside and sealed it so the fumes of acid will eat away at the metal parts.
