wow I haven't even heard of alot of those people, and you forgot Ben Gibbard too
#8
agree with les claypool and geezer should be on the list

*we had our words, a common spat, so i kissed him upside the head with an aluminum baseball bat my name is mud*

but i still say tom waits does in every song what poets and songwriters dream of doing once in a lifetime

waits >dylan
#9
I kinda guessed Bob Dylan would be at #1. Good choice.
Do you use a BR-600?
If so, click here to join the group thats made for you!

I think Neil Young should be ahead of Dylan for #1 overall. Otherwise, the top 3 seems good to me.

samick is right.
as well as eric clapton

I hate lists like this.

It's impossible to make them good, because it's all opinion. I mean sure, it's pretty much a universal fact that Bob Dylan is a better songwriter than the guys from Fall Out Boy, but other than those big ones, I don't really get the point of these things.
#14
bruce springsteen copied alot of waits style even his voice *listen to waits first 3 albums and tell me there isnt a resemblance* not to mention one of bruces biggest hits is a waits song...jersey girl! i think the top 3 should be
3.dylan
2. young
1 waits

Glad to see Springsteen getting some love, although Bono deserves to be in the top 3.

IMO the top three should be Springsteen, Bono, Elton John.

The only thing lists are good for is aggravation.
"Ultimate"-Guitar is the worst website on the internet. Polluted with unintelligent mongoloids.
#19
i couldnt find one that included dead ones

wish i could but that could cause some serious arguments on here so the living will have to do for now
#20
the loss of Mikael Akerfeldt, Chuck Schuldiner, Trey Azagthoth, Geoff Treaman, and Karl Sanders = this is a horrible list (then, again I listed all DM songwriters...>>...)

cuz ppl hate how power metal they are cuz they think its "gay" or w.e, which is immature and dirogitory
#22
Where is Nergal? Why are there no metal songwriters? Mikael Akerfekt (guy from Opeth, I hope I got his name kind of right) should definitely be on there.

that's ridiculous. There's no way in hell Neil isn't top 2, and FYI Edge writes more songs than Bono does for U2, so I don't know how you can have Bono without Edge.

Where's Chris Cornell?

#26
Matt Bellamy didn't even make the top 100?!? IMO nullifies the entire list

Bowie and the Stones should have made the top 10. Pink Floyd should also be higher.
And why aren't Kurt Cobain and Buddy Holly on the list?

I'm not surprised that they aren't on there, but Jawbreaker and Brand New should be on there

Bob Dylan's number 1, big surprise...

He've written some damn good ones though, if he's not number one he should be up there.

But that list could've been far better.

Listen to this man. His 2 ideas in five minutes have shat all over your serious ideas.

Radiohead, Stephen Malkmus, Win Butler, Wayne Coyne and Kevin Drew should all be on that list or higher.

I think Neil sucks.

Is this a crime? No Blake(jawbreaker and JTB) and Jesse Lacey(Brand New).
Like I said, it's not a surprise that they aren't on it, but they deserve to be

All opinion which is why everyone can't be happy with one list. I'm surprised Prince and Tom Waits go so high in fact.
