I've done alittle research of them and this is what I came to be a conclusion of what it is and what they do.

So bacially a torrent is like limewire, but instead of it being a program it is a website to where I can search anything I could search and download on limewire?

is that the idea they are trying to convey?

or am I totally wrong

thanks guys

First of all, torrents are programs, too.

Limewire says "Open information sharing..." and when you go to download it asks if you will use it for copyright infringement or not. If you say you might, it will redirect you.

When downloading a torrent GUI, it says "Open or Save". Something to that effect. This is the same when downloading a torrent itself.

A = Limewire = "Open Information Sharing" = "Legal" (Read: Illegal)
B = Torrents = "DOWNLOAD NAO" = Illegal

A and B are synonymous.

You're downloading copyrighted data and not paying. It's illegal.

it all depends on what you download, but usually torrents are safer.

Not downloading anything is the only truly safe route to take.

Torrents are safer. If you're careful.

So is Limewire, if you're not a ****ing idiot and looking for porn and stuff.

Not to hijack the thread, but could someone PM me with some information about torrents, like what sites to use, how to search, I used to use Bearshare, ut now they have it set up like the itunes store, and there's no point in paying for the right to pay for songs.

Neither limewire or torrents are illegal. They're methods of downloading things, it's what you download that's illegal.

Torrents are P2P method of download, basically. You're connected to a bunch of other people that are all downloading different parts of whatever you're downloading and simultaneously uploading different parts as well, eventually meaning everyone gets the whole file or group of files. Then you start to seed it, seeding is just continuously uploading the file, leeching is uploading and download. It gets its name from the leech, sucking blood, sucking..internet. Same thing, whatever.
