So I'm in the process of planning out a build that I can do in Spring, and I'm thinking about what sort of body shape to go for. Now, I personally love the shape/comfort of a strat body, but I have this problem with strats where I feel like theres a possibility that I might break it.

I don't know if thats just because I'm so used to playing an SG so much or not, but its sort of niggling at me. Is there anything I could do with a build to make it feel a little more solid that the majority of strats?
Skeet UK is awesome, he can get WD Music parts discounted.

I thought SGs were famed for being fragile. Strats seem more robust to me.

Build a Tele. It's a just slab of wood. Put a thick neck on it, and you can use it to beat up muggers.

SGs are extremely light, but Vs feel like you can shatter them if you hold them the wrong way.

LPs are surprisingly heavy, and so are explorers.

Strats, Teles, and (Semi-)Hollowbodies feel solid though.

My first strat (solid maple body,) is a tank. I dont think I could break that if I tried.

I love my Sg Classic but I will be honest it feels like it is made out of cardboard sometimes.

Then again,
I think that is one of the reasons I like it.

It is so light I think it is pretty much impossible for me to get tired from playing for too long.

My Jaguar on the other hand is a ****ing beast.

SGs are crazy light, I bought a PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow a few weeks ago, and I thought that was light. Then I picked up my friends SG and it felt likeit was made out of paper.

lol...thats great!

awesome quote

Anywho, i've never thought of strats being fragile, quite durable actually. They have to be. They're like one of the most popular guitars ever.

Maybe your problem is with the guitar's light weight? Use a heavy wood and maybe your mind will be eased.

SG's are far too fragile I think..

How about trying a thru-neck Mahoghany strat?

Purple Heart. Enjoy your new biceps from lifting the monster.

Edit, or Snakewood (would be ultimate for a sunburst finish).

its not inpossibel, but itd sound like butt.

if you want somethig durable, id use mahogany. its heavier, but it kills for tone and is pretty much undestructible, from my experience.

I think there's such thing as a guitar made out of steel, called the Steelcaster or something, Tom Morello has one I believe.

*Indestructible

I dont think an aluminum guitar would sound all that great either, but I know from like '76 to '85 Kramer guitars/basses had aluminum necks.

I dunno how they sounded though.

I saw something similar to what you are talking about on ebay once. It was made entirely of some chunk of metal, with a chrome finish. It was selling for about $3000.

They make plexiglass guitars, I wonder how they sound...

Anybody own one? Care to share?

James Trussart makes steel guitars. They're pretty nice looking and I hear good things about them but I've never seen one in real life.
