I'm a big time shredder that is looking for some brutal tone out of pick ups.I'm a shredder and I like doing clean things with my guitar.I have a budget of about $200 - $230.I play metal,neo-classical,and the blues but I mostly play metal.

I have a Jackson JS30RR Rhoads

poll coming..

i'd definately agree with an EMG 81/85 combo, i have it in my guitar, the 81 is what i use for shredding, and if for some reason i decide to play clean, the 85 is a beauty
Guitar:
Schecter C-1 Hellraiser
Jackson DK2-L w/ Dimarzio X2N
Takamine acoustic

Bass:
Fender Precision Bass

Amp:
Marshall AVTX150H
Behringer BG412F

dimarzios or duncans should do it.

If you like shredding, you won't like the EMG's. EMG's don't add any of their own tone to your specific tone.

What amp do you have?

fender frontman g 15 but i'm looking for another one irght now.

I would wait until I bought a new amp before getting pick-ups, hell you might not even need them. Most of you tone comes from your amp and playing EMGs or Blackouts though a SS is going to sound ****ty.

Put the money twords an amp.

Does your guitar have a double locking trem if it does your better with passive pickups. EMGs pickup almost anything even the springs from the tremelo.

I've never had that problem.

Get a new amp first, it'll affect your tone more.

Then get DiMarzios

If at all possible, I would suggest going with a 60 in the neck, IMO it sounds much better on a clean channel than the 85 and gives a fatter, crunchier sound. Either way, you should really get a new amp or the pickups won't help you too much.

DImarzios - Steve's Special/Air norton. The Steve is awesome for shred and neo-classical, and the Air norton can produce some damn good cleans.

then don't worry about pickups yet, get the amp first (and for the love of god ask advice here first).

Pickups aren't an issue for you at the moment.

hes 100% right
no matter what guitar you put emgs in...they will all have the exact same tone no matter what...its kinda like...if you had emgs in a gibson les paul...and you had emgs in anything else...TONE-WISE, they wont sound any different...if you care about your tone at all...and since you say you shred, you most likley do...dont get emg, and dont get active for that matter at all...go passive...you will seriously regret buying active unless you just play heavy metal rhythm and thats it...

Why did you quote me?

I was merely pointing out that he had the 81/85 combo and the ZW set in the poll, but that the ZW set is an 81/85 combo itself....

the ZW is the same as the EMG 81/85 i think
you are better of with the SD blackout or EMG 81/85
but if you really want perfect cleans look for the 81/60 combination
the 60 in the neck make sweet cleans, listen the nothing else matters live video in youtube, and you´ll see the perfect clean sound
my opinion is blackouts or 81/60

yes. im sure. Dimarzios and Seymours are each made with their own tone and output level.

EMG's are only made with output in mind. They don't add any tone to the overall tone, but do leave the tone open to the amp.

dimarzios, just not EMG's
unless u want brutal metal with scooped mids, which when u shred u want boosted mids ofc..
