I notice a few chips here and there, what happened? What finish are you planning to put on it?

Yeah, theres a couple of chips but they'll come out in the sanding. Theres still a lot to do, especially with the top caving.

Gonna be a natural oil and wax finish.

Sweet.

Oh, BTW, what's the status on your V and Explorer build? Haven't seen an update in months and I was really looking forward to seeing how it's coming along.

Its gonna have a pick-up ring,

I carved the top with an angle grinder and finished it off with a thumb plane.

Needs a good sand to even some bumps out.

Hmm.. looks good so far.

Two questions really:

1. What happened to making it string-through? :P

2. Is the neck going to split off when you string it up?

Not sure what to do yet, probably gonna go with the stop tail.

Why would the neck split off when its strung up?

I always thought that set-necks still needed a neck pocket, to be mounted into the body slightly =/ .. surely it puts too much pressure on the overhanging section of fretboard and the flat glued section?

I'm probably being an idiot, and I'm tired.

The carved body looks ace.. like a cross between an ESP Horizon and an RG.

It does have a neck tenon that goes from the 16th fret where the neck meets the body and it goes right up to the end of the fingerboard into the body so it'll be fine!

looks awweesome

any idea of the colour yet?

Not to stray too far, but no one else besides me thinks string-thru looks unfinished?

Dude, no pickup ring = sex, and on a natural finish = extreme sex.

Either way, looks great so far

Carved the neck today,

(I got a little impatient and gave the top a coat of oil to see what it looked like! lol)

I decided to go with a stop tail but I think I've put it slightly too far back, not really know till it gets strund up but it should still be ok.

Veneered the headstock with African Blackwood, all I need to do before fretting and sanding is thickness the headstock right and were away!

sweet!! The body hardly even looks carved in that first pic tho

I've dry fitted all the hardwear to make sure everythings ok.
Needs fretting then a really good sand ready for oiling. I need to put a little work in on the volute to make it look nicer. Should be done in a week or so!

I cant really do any more to the carve without it looking too over the top. It looks a lot nicer in real life and you can see the carve more.

as small and obsolete as this is,

I LOVE THAT TRUSS ROD COVER.

it's a shame there aren't more guitars like this out there.

props to you, sir.

^ I must agree, I mean I LOVE that head stock, and then with the addition of that perfect TR cover just makes it amazin! Its such a lil detail but it makes me go wow a lil bit

BTW is there sum chipping below the high e tuner or is it just the pic?

Yeah, only tiny ones, they'll all come out in the sanding.

I made the truss rod cover out of the came piece of wood as the headstock veneer, It'll look even nicer when its oiled and waxed then polished up!
#32
Interesting that you glued the neck in before you fretted. I personally think it's so much easier fretting right after tapering just so you're still working with a block of wood, but whatever.

So long as you take your time and your careful, it's pretty easy. Have to be careful with the binding though, I have tried it the way you do it but I prefer to do it like this.

Thanks,

It makes me mad though that when I put it in my Local guitars shop for sale, people will love the look of it, the sound of it and how it plays but wont be willing to shell out £800 because it doesnt say Gibson/Fender/Ibanez/ESP on it.
#35
I like it without the pickup rings and natural finish, but I prefer 6 on one side headstocks, Im not really sure why

wow, that's just plain and just simply a beautiful guitar. looking at the pics of the neck make me want to play it, the transition from neck and body looks so smooth. good job!
by the way, i'd pay 800 pounds for that (if i had that much) for a guitar like that because unlike the gibson, fenders, ibanez, ect. it's been done by hand and has gotten a lot more attention.

tbh, I'd rather they didn't!

I'd LOVE a guitar with no writing on the headstock, so there's no bias as to brand and assumed sound quality.

WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST BE EQUAL!?

I think instead of a logo on the headstock im gonna stick to stamping EVE in the end of the fingerboard (like Jackson do with serial numbers) and inlay an oval metal plaque into the back of the guitar with "EVE Guitars Handmade in the UK" and the serial number engraved into it.
