My teacher gave me a sheet of pentatonic box shapes. Next to one note per shape on top string, he put some symbols. A few have a V with a _ on the top and bottom. The two others have an XII sort of thing. I had assumed they just meant the note to start on, but when I was playing them back it didn't sound right. So do all the box shapes start on the lowest note of the sixth string, or do some start higher on the sixth and the lower as the second note played. Maybe if you know of a diagram with the starting notes marked, as I can't find one.

it may be a note that corresponds with the V (five) chord in the progression.. each symbol might match up with a chord.

^Scan your diagrams and post them. I'll be glad to explain them.

Perhaps, but I've never heard of the 12 chord.
