Apples and Oranges here.

They both play different, sound different and look different.

Try them out and see what you like.

Totally depends on the style you play, and the tone you're looking!

I love both personally, but the SG has a more chunky sound, due to the humbuckers...

I know a fat strat has humbuckers, but I hate them, and would never go for one!

depends. I personally would take a squier strat over any SG you could throw at me. I completely despise everything about SGs. The design, the sound they prouce, the feel, everything. Strats are good, basic guitars. There's a reason why "everyone has them". I perfer teles, but strats are damn good guitars.

i can't tell if he wants our opinions on which he should buy or just our opinions on which we prefer.

i prefer sg. for my style (metal, rock, punk, and everything in between), so humbuckers, shape, and neck do well for me.
if i played blues, or more clean oriented music, id play a strat.

For metal, i'd buy neither of them...

If I had to pick one though, definately the sg for metal - it handles high gain better due to the humbuckers, and has a more metal sound to it, although strats can keep up!

wow like UG doesnt get like 2 jillion of these questions every 2 jillion seconds. wait a minute...would that be so bad? ill have to get strong sad to write in to popular science about that. hah. popular science. more like...nerdular nerdance. /strong bad quoting

anyway the sg rocks. i love mine. one thing i found its way lighter, way awesomer looking, got 2 buckers, found the necks to be slimmer. but it all depends on playing style.

Exactly.

Judging a strat because it's "boring" is just stupid.
There are more LP styled guitars since it's based on the cutaway acoustic

SG definatly then, you can get a great metal tone out of one, strats are a lot harder to play metal on

i got a squier strat and i love it a f*kin' lot, but i like SGs too much, and i'd wanna got a SG '61 with a Maestro Tremolo (as the one in the in my profile's pics) and dirty fingers. also, i think both guitars are commonly used into the heavy music.
