No matter how much or little I do, or how many or how few questions I ask my friend/bassist doesn't really contribute. And when trying to teach him things he just goes off in his own world, what are your suggestions.

Get a megaphone and speak through that at the highest volume.

No, but seriously, just sit him down without any instruments, just you two. Talk seriously and honestly about his commitment to the band, and he'll understand where you're coming from and hopefully shape up.

so he doesn't come up with his own stuff, and he won't do what you tell him to do...so does he just sit there? what is his function? could you be less vague in your description of this problem?

Wow, someone finally agrees with me. ADD is one of the most overdiagnosed disorders there is. If parents would discipline their children they would not have said problems.

Do a Sex Pistols on him and switch his amp off during gigs, wont make you sound better but he'll get the hint.
#8
just sit him down, punch him in the forehead, and be like i love you and lets make out, if he goes along with it, tell him not untill we learn something!

I agree with you. ADD (as far as I know) wasn't a problem so much back in the 40s and 50s. It's the damn generation that was born around then that's terrible at parenting. I think the meds that they're wrongly prescribed mess 'em up more.
