Can someone explain to me what the 5W/3W switch on the Blackheart Little Giant does? I'm about to buy one.

Thanks.

I'm buying it for my bedroom to play/practice at quieter volumes, but don't want to sacrifice tone. I guess it's worth it.

It's a pentode/triode switch. 5W has more gain, 3W more headroom. It makes no sense, but that's how it is.

If it's linked to the preamp tube, it's probaly because useing the tube in pentode form puts the signal through one gain stage, and using it in triode puts it through one. I could be wrong.

Yeah it weirded me out... THought it should push the headroom down when on 3 watt... nope

Definitly gets the heaviest on the 5 watt switch. However 3 watt is noticibly quieter.
