I definitely need to expand my musical tastes, and I think everyone should benefit from this. Post either five of your favorite bands/musicians or five bands/musicians or albums you've lately been into to, with what you think is their strongest album. The UGer below you can then check out those artists and hopefully broaden their tastes.

I'll start off, I've lately been listening to:

Opeth - Still Life
Iced Earth - Burnt Offerings & The Dark Saga (as requested by JOJ)
Interpol - Antics
Symphony X - Paradise Lost
Gil Scott Heron - Reflections

The point of this is to try and hear new music. Please actually consider the posts and try to check out new material.

(EDIT: To the guy below, list what you think are the strongest albums from those artists)

Moondog-Avant Garde jazz composer. Really, really good. I recommend the CBS records.
Spacehog-Glam punk/rock band from the 90s. Better than Bowie. I recommend Resident Alien.
Fela Kuti- Afro-Beat. It sonds like a mix between jazz and tribal music. Makes Rage Against the Machine look like a bunch of Green Day fans when it comes to politics. I recommend The Black President, or Zombie.
Triumph-This is for Rush/Van Halen fans. They're an arena rock band from the eighties. Their guitar player blows Alex Lifeson and Eddie out of the water. Yeah, I said it. I recommend Stages.
Sonia Dada-Soulful jam band, sound kind of like Black Church bands meets awesome. I recommend "Lay Down and Love it Live" or "My Secret Life."
Grupo Fantasma-Salsa/Latin band from Texas. They're amazing, too. I recommend Moviemento Popular.

But I insist you edit your first post to include the Dark Saga by Iced Earth, too. Not just because it's an awesome album, but because the artwork is superior based on who it is about.

Albums about Spawn>Any other album, unless that album is about Lobo.

One of these days, I'm going to make an album about Lobo, and it's going to be superior to the Dark Saga.

The original artwork on Burnt Offerings is the best thing ever, the new one isn't as good. Dark Saga is awesomely baller though.

Hurt - Volume II (This album blew me away. Seriously.)
Evans Blue - The Pursuit Begins When This Portrayal of Life Ends
Fair to Midland - Fables From a Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times Is True
Priestess - Hello Master
Cool For August - Grand World (Lol, this album might be a little tricky to find, but well worth it)

Lately I have been listening to:

Dream Theater - Train of Thought. Pretty much nonstop, but I take it most UGers know about DT anyway
World/Inferno Friendship Society - Addicted to Bad Ideas. Cabaret punk band - they incorporate a lot of horns and have between 10-15 members at any one time. You know those albums that, once you hear them, they change your life? This is one of them. Highly, highly recommended.
Vanden Plas - Christ 0. Very cool progressive metal; quickly became among my favorite bands in the genre.
Harvey Danger - Little By Little. Pop/rockish type music, I suppose. They're actually offering this album as a free download from their website, and I was decently impressed by it.
Chris Potter Undergound - Follow The Red Line. Awesome jazz saxophonist. I saw him a little while ago, and he blew me away. Some of the best musicianship I've had the pleasure of seeing performed live.

That's it for now.
