You can do whatever the hell you want on any guitar. Some are just more suited for some things than others.

This.

Conversely, I'm using a guitar more suited to shredders, a Squier Stagemaster 7 (about as shred as you're gonna get on a Squier, anyways), to pull off Pink Floyd-ish leads on a 7-string.
Q: Favourite Pink Floyd song?
A: The one where they get wicked high and play Emin and A for an hour.

I once saw somebody carry a Guitar Hero controller in a case to protect it. He probably should have packed his testicles in there too, seeing as he won't need to use those for quite a while.

If Zakk wylde can shred on an Epi les paul custom's baseball bat

Brad Paisley.

That's what I came here to say. He may play within the cornball country-pop genre, but if you get a chance to see him live, he's a shredder.

Steve Morse.
Pass it on.

Jari doesn't seem to have a problem with them. But then again, he also plays with an Ibanez Jem.

This is what I came here to say (except for the Jem part- I can't stand those things, and I'd prefer if he'd scrap it)

John 5 can

Jimmy Page, John 5, Izzy Stradlin (well not really a shredder, but played with lots of gain). Those 3 I can think of off the top of my head.
There ain't no moral to this story at all. Anything I tell you very well could be a lie.

^this is the only part of this thread worth reading.

teles aren't necessarily the ideal choice, for numerous reasons, but that doesn't mean you can't use them for shredding.

An extra +1 for Jari from Wintersun.
I see Mother Nature equipped you for a battle of wits in the same way she equipped cows for supersonic flight.

Jari of Wintersun recorded all his guitar parts on a telecaster o.0

He actually plays a gibson. The Epi's are replicas.

John 5 shreds a tele like no-one. Also, so many country players use them, and that involves lots of fast, technical manouvers.

They feel awesome, too.

Jimmy Page. Shredder. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Ignorant metal mind. I hate shredding.

DUH!!!!!!

I was making a reference to the Demonstration Zakk Wylde did for the
Epiphone Les paul custom signature replicas. He played on the epiphone
versions and did all of his trademark moves.
