No, Strats cant do metal...and they can do punk, but only pop/punk...to bright a sound, I'd go with an LP, or some other maplewood guitar.

I've got an LP, and play mostly punk rock (true punk)...but I can get nice shreddy metalish solos out of it too.

Iron Maiden?

Look, I'm biased against Fender, but that's just untrue.

I was thinking about maybe going with a high end Agile LP?

It may be able to do it...but it's just not the best guitar for what he wants IMO, and there are other guitars that can do it much better.

That's a great guitar, obviously not up to the Gibson LP standards, but it can definently stand up to the Studio's, switch out the pick ups, and you'd have a kick ass guitar.

No doubt there are better metal guitars, but most metal guitars do metal and nothing else.

The Fender does everything at least well.

Well, I think (and so do most) that you should be thinking about a Fender Fat Strat. However, if you're against it and want some great metal tones (and dece punk if you eq meticulously and are good with your pedals and whatnot) maybe an ESP with singles in it...like:

I think I'll probably go with the Agile LP. If LPs are good enough for Aaron Barret (Reel Big Fish), they're good enough for me. Hell, even RBF has some metallish moments. Thanks for the responses guys.

Their guitars are loaded w/ Seymour Duncan hotrails I think.

I think semi-hollows are the most versatile. With a hot bridge pickup and a jazzy neck pickup you can play anything and everything. I suppose that applies to LP's as well.

Fender Strat with some Seymour Duncan hot rails was Dave Murray's setup.

Maybe a Tele Deluxe? Can't say I've played one though.

They are. My point is that Strats can do metal.
