It's come to my attention that the pit is currently over-ridden with angsty teens 'pouring their hearts' into thread upon thread of hormonal drivel, and it's getting mind-boggling. So, as someone who's pretty much grown up on guitar forums, I see it as my duty to give them all this message- It gets better. Trust me.

My Dad left my Mum when I was 5 years old after a marriage of arguing, upset and emotional turmoil. Contact was always sporadic, and my Mum was left to look after THREE children with special needs (myself with Asperger's Syndrome and Dyspraxia, my now 15 year old brother with profound Dyspraxia and my now 13 year old brother with ADHD) all by herself, along with her own disabilities- arthritis, RDS, asthma, and, later, cancer.

Following an emergency, we left my hometown with I was 9 to live with my aunt in Maidenhead for about a year before moving from house to house in Cambridge following some REDICULOUS situations with dodgy council houses, and even spent a time homeless living with my grandparents and family friends, which was HELL. Also, because of my 'Aspie' label, school was made VERY difficult for me, even though I'm a very able student. I started one college, then dropped out after 4 months and started again the next year. My Mum is also in a relationship with someone with a serious alcohol problem who has caused MASSIVE problems in the family for years. I also now have a third brother who is now almost 4.

The final blow came last September when my Mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer. For most of that time, I've had to deal with a horrific amount of emotional turmoil, whilst STILL getting straight 'A's in my studies along with many other problems really got me having dark, dark thoughts sometimes.

However, it was only recently that I realised that only I alone can take the reigns and turn my life around. With a little determination and a LOT of hard work, I am now preparing to move into an apartment in Norwich with my long-term girlfriend and I shall be starting a Music Performance degree at ATM in September, too- and I couldn't be happier.

It goes to show that no matter how crap you think your life is, with a lot of hard work, determination and motivation, you can take control of your life and live it how YOU want to.

So before you write a massive thread complaining about being grounded because your Mum found your weed, or that your girlfriend of 2 weeks has left you for having spots, just remember- all this is temporary, and will only make you stronger. Once you learn to take the reigns, you're in control.

I hope this'll make you feel a LOT better.

but seriously, what do you want, every kid aged 13-16 in existence goes through that stage(some more than others though)

As much as I respect you and as much a valid point that you make Aidy, I think you have to understand that people are capable of handling problems to different degrees.

And if it's your first proper girlfriend that dumps you for no reason, that's a confidence killer.

I understand where you're coming from, and I'm happy you've been able to cope, but it's almost like you're guilt tripping everyone else with problems of a lesser magnitude to yours. 99.9% of people aren't in the situation you've been in, or anything close.

EDIT: You gonna tell Dave McPherson to shut up being angsty every time he plays a song off of Overgrown Eden?

+ Infinity.

Ok, so I didn't read it all, but this is perhaps the most true thing I've seen on UG ever.
#6
TS you realise you just also poured your heart out right??

People are still gonna complain that their life sucks cos theyve been grounded for two weeks or their gf's fxcked someone else, its life. Theres always gonna be whiny bastxrds, but on the other hand, if they need to pour their hearts out on a guitar forum, then they truly have no freinds.

Such is life

I'm not trying to send people on a guilt trip- of course those things will knock your confidence, but they're only going to make you stronger when you get out on the other side.
#8
Wow, very well put. I thought this was going to be a thread saying something along the lines of "Cheer up emo kid" or, "Get the fu-k over it". Very mature of you, and encouraging.
#9
anyway, are you trying to make us feel that are lives and problems are nothing compared to yours?

well you didn't need to write all of that, just post this:

all problems in our society are null and void compared to africa

EDIT: you, of course, explained it much better and subtely, but i prefer sledgehammer points that are not arguable.

But just let them vent. They don't need to hear/read the entire "grass is always greener on the other side" and "someone's always got it worse" things. At that moment in time, they feel hard done by, and they have every right to be, even if it is for a stupid reason.

touché- you make a very valid point.
#12
Let them do it. You've done exactly the same as them under the banner of a "sensible" thread.

I get more annoyed by the people that go into their threads and call them angsty kids than the "angsty kids" themselves.
#13
Teenage angst - or angst, which it should be called since we all have problems regardless of age - is simply a way of giving yourself challenges to make yourself feel that you're working towards whatever goals you have put up in life.
#14
I gotta agree with Deliriumbassist. Of course your problems are horrible, but theres a stage in people's lives (the 13-16 year old period Carswell pointed out) where they're faced with a huge amount of change and of course theyre going to be anxious about it and theyre going to need to vent somehow.
Really, if it's all too much for you to see teens whinging about their "problems", just take a break from the forums, or don't bother to go into the thread.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to put it, along with your other advice, into a book, the pages of which I will then use to wipe my ass.

This thread has too much pissing and moaning in it. Quit being angsty, TS.

But seriously, I see your point. And everyones lives can be worse. I mean, afterall.. We could be Spawn.

So your message is "Kids! Stop complaining! Someone may have more to complain about than you!" right?

You really made your point by doing exactly what you were making a fuss about.

maybe with a little "quit complaining and take control of your life" thrown in there.

edit: I just noticed this, what is the point of Spawns right foot being huge... and pointy?

spawn?

Yeah that Spawn. His family forgot all about him, his wife is sleeping with his best friend. He looks like a pizza.. his body is completely burned, his best friends are all hobos. He's homeless himself. He fights a never ending war with the forces of evil, and gets almost no thanks for it. It's complete bull****. No one has it harder than Spawn.

Well why not just say that? Did anyone want to hear his life story? He's after attention as much as any of the people he's complaining about.

sorry, I had to, before someone else did.

What? I think quite the opposite has happened here. Apart from the whole relationship stuff.

Nice story Aidy.

I would possibly agree if I didn't want to punch you in the face for insulting one of my heroes.

Besides, there is more than one Robin. Which one are you referring to?

Doesn't matter, though. None of them had it worse than Spawn.

Teenagers have no idea of perspective Aidy, my sister went around crying all day yesterday because someone cut her hair wrong.

Also high five for having dyspraxia too, but with our underdeveloped motor skills we'd probably miss.

I think it's strange how people who have bad childhoods end up doing better than those who had a normal upbringing.

Sometimes it's even better because you've seen how bad it can be and want to do well so try really hard to turn things around. In your case you've done that.

I, on the other hand, had a comfortable upbringing and it's probably done me more bad than good by making me a lazy git with no prospects or motiavtion at the moment!

I think going through the things you went through only make you stronger, but there are also some people who can go off the rails.

Obviously there are exceptions but this is what I've seen happen a lot.

What is so bad about being a rock creature? Nothing. He probably jizzes molten lava, which is pretty friggin' cool. I wish I did.

If you're talking about the severed hand, maybe.. But he seems pretty happy.

Swamp Thing has it worse than the Thing. And the Toxic Avenger has it worse than HIM. No one has it worse than Spawn.

And DB: Batman is not a paedo.

i was talking about the rock guy for TF4. I mean, he doesn't seem to have a penis, and even if he did, wouldn't it be erect ALL the time? since we know there is no bulge in his tiny pantsies, we must assume that The Thing lost his penis in the accident.

the poor guy

the poor guy

A. He has a penis.
B. Having an erect penis at all times is one of my dreams, and it's why I stole viagra out of the medicine cabinet in my mom's office one time.
C. I can only assume that you lost your penis for not knowing all these things.

Haven't you ever noticed he's got a really deep, gruffy voice? If he was penisless, he's probably be all high pitched and what not.

wrong! that would happen if he had no testicles. having no penis doesn't mean he has no tesicles.

he must have balls of rock, but no penis. the poor Thing.
