This is one of the boxes starting on the fifth fret:

E--------------------------------------------------------------------------5---7--8-------
B--------------------------------------------------------------5--6--8--------------------
G-----------------------------------------------------5----7------------------------------
D------------------------------------5-----7----9----------------------------------------
A-------------------5------7--8----------------------------------------------------------
E----5-----7--8----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyone have any idea?

That's the A natural minor scale (or A aeolian) if starting on the 5th fret E string, or the C major scale (or C Ionian) if started on the 8th fret.

Technically it's any number of scales, but if you assume that the first note is the root then it's A minor.

yeah its A minor. btw the standard pattern for that is:

(blue notes = root)
-----------------------------------------------5--7---8----------------
--------------------------------------5-6-7----------------------------
----------------------------4-5--7-------------------------------------
---------------------5--7---------------------------------------------
---------5--7--8-------------------------------------------------------
-5-7-8-----------------------------------------------------------------

or The 3 notes per string pattern

-----------------------------------------------------7--8--10-----------
------------------------------------------6-8-10----------------
-------------------------------5--7--9-------------------------
--------------------5--7--9------------------------------------
-----------5-7-8-----------------------------------------------
--5--7-8-------------------------------------------------------
shred is gaudy music

^Yet another way to finger it without stretches:

-------------------------------------5-7-8
-----------------------------5-6-8--------
----------------------4-5-7---------------
-----------------5-7-----------------------
---------5-7-8----------------------------
-5-7-8------------------------------------

EDIT: I am an idiot. This was already posted. Sorry.

A minor has exactly the same notes as C major.
That is because they are relative.
