I prefer tunings that aren't used by bands that think they're metal but they're actually not.

I meant Slipknot mainly.

But still, I tune to many different tunings really. Depends what song i'm practising. I'm mostly in standard though.

Well, I'm usually playing/writing black metal, and it's easier for me to do that in E Standard. If I ever am in a death metal mood, I like Db standard, or even Bb standard..don't know why I like the flat tunings..haha.

off topic a bit but what are sme black metal bands and whats the difference between death metal and black metal?

Since you don't even know the difference between death and black metal, I'm not going to be taking any genre advice off you in the near future.

But I digress. On with the thread!

Slipknot is drop B-well subliminal verses and iowa are i think...to answer ur question probably either D standard or drop B or C.
#16
C Standard fool!

Nah, I use standard tuning.

Well, sometimes I use C Standard.

E Standard. I find that anything going further than drop D just sounds awful unless you know how to use it, which most metal bands don't.

Tuned to open E.

Really, just standard. 80's thrash!

Right on! :P

E standard or drop D. Really you can tune to drop D in 5 secs so it doesn't matter than much...

Slipknot plays in Drop B....

Dropping doesn't make you heavy but it does seem to give it a little extra crunch with slightly darker sounds....

I myself prefer Standard, D Standard and C Standard along with their dropped tunings nothing lower usually.....I love C standard and Drop C though...

Drop C. I've gotten so accustomed to playing with that tuning that I use it for almost everything now.

Well, that tuning on my LTD anyway. I use E Standard on my Epi.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

if i ever saw a band play in any kind of dropped 6th string tuning i'd demand my money back. thats just being lazy and ripping off your audience. any band that does this should be fined 500$ for every live performance.
same goes with down tuning below D (and even D is streaching it). low tuning does not teh br00taZZ make, just sounds like a tribe of baboons with severe flatulence

Death metal does not suck. Death, Nile, Morbid Angel, Necrophagist, OLD cannibal corpse are all great DM bands.

Anyway I love EB and D Standard the most

nah, they're a whole lotta gay.

anyway, i prefer drop C or Eb standard

AHHHH!!! The use of incorrect terminology on this website sickens me!! Its not drop C - its drop D and one step down! Drop C would be C, A, D, G, B, E - the "drop" means you are only dropping the E string.

Anyway, I primarily use E standard or D standard, depending on how heavy I want to sound.

i keep my different guitars in different tunings depending on what im playing;

dkmg - C standard
dk2m - D standard
tele - Eb
les paul - drop G#
