Why do so many people refer to Squier instruments as Fender Squiers? They aren't Fender instruments, the company is just owned by Fender. I believe Ibanez and Jackson are owned by the same company, but nobody says a 'Fender Ibanez'.

Is it all just an attempt to make them sounds better? I'm not complaining, I'm just wondering, am I missing something?

Because unlike Ibanez, who produce their own models, Squier are based around making cheaper Fender instruments such as Teles and Strats (though for some reason, no Jaguars. Stoopid Squier). Plus Squier is written in the same spaghetti font as Fender. People just look on them as cheaper Fenders, which they are.

?

People call them that because they are very much Fender instruments. Same designs in every way, the differences are in the materials and build quality. You won't find people calling a Jackson a 'Fender Jackson' because Jackson guitars bear absolutely no similarities to those under the Fender name. Also, Squier was not really a guitar manufacturer before Fender bought it, if I remember correctly, it was a string making firm or something of the sort. They hadn't made a name for themselves before Fender bought them, like Jackson did.

On Squiers you will see it says "Squier by Fender".

Ignore the first post, won't you.

People who have Squiers (which, as we all know, are crap) just want to be able to say they have a Fender. When they don't.

EDIT: I should've been less subtle on the sarcasm in this post

They make a jagMASTER, the master of jags....anyway, is Ibanez really owned by Fender. Both great companies, top two in my book just wondering.

I much rather playing my Squier than my Fender Strat. The neck is much much better.

My squier is awesome. I'd never be ashamed to say I play a squier, though it isn't my only guitar. It was great before all the upgrades I made to it, now that it has vintage noiseless pups, a nifty killswitch that says off when it's on, and a graphtech nut it's easily better than any fender I've ever played....at least in my opinion...affinity strat by the way.

I didn't say that Fenders are better in every aspect. Just materials and tone (though, that last part is arguable, I'm sure).

I also have a Squier (2 actually, Affinity Strat and P-Bass).
So I'm not dissing the company. Some people just don't appreciate inexpensive instruments, and assume they're crap. They aren't held to the same quality standards as actual Fenders, but that doesn't mean they're going to be any less preferable to certain players.

My guitar teacher uses a Squier Strat. When I asked him why he didn't use a better guitar, he said he loved the feel of his. And he has some of the best tone I know.

My friend's Squire felt real good to play. I'd still be happy with one for 4 years running right now.

While we're on it, I have a Squier Telecaster and it's a piece of crap and I'm not ashamed to admit it Why anyone would buy an expensive Fender, that isn't as good as their much less expensive Squier, is beyond me (assuming that the person got the Squier before the Fender).

i love my strat! i have to admire an instrument that can play SRV as well as Metallica

Apart from the fret buzz on a very small area of the guitar (14-15th frets on the G string), my Squier is fine!

I sanded "squier" off of my headstock to overt shame, but there isn't enough sandpaper in the world to remove the indelible mark of phail all over it

I suppose brand recognition, to make noobs think what they are buying is good
