What exactly makes a guitar sound jazzy or are there certain types built that way to be electric "jazz guitars"

My guitar is made of basswood and sounds completely different

alot of it is your amp...after that how you play.after that your guitar...oh,and basswood is not so good for jazz, but it can be done.

Alot of jazz guitars are semi-hollow or completely hollow, and have very low-power high-impedance humbuckers. The combination of the two creates a thick, but clear and well-defined jazz sound. Listen to some sound clips from a Roland Jazz Chorus amp, and you might see what i mean. And there are certain chords that sound jazzy. Look up a jazz chords tab, and youll see what i mean.
