ok so im looking at buying a small low wattage tube amp for recording and modification. i know about the epiphone valve junior the blackheart and the crate v5. does anyone else know of any?

I'm gonna say Blackheart, versatile, with the eq and switches and so on, which is good for recoding. Also it was created with one thind in mind:

Another nice recording amp would be the Matamp MiniMat (i think that's it's name).
It's just a 2 watt head, but it's purpose built to crank and record with.

You can get low power vintage tube amps for about the same money as these new ones. Check ebay for Harmony, Danelectro, Kay, etc. Great tones, and all hand-wired and easy to work on.
