Well, I have come to the obvious conclusion that once a band changes their sound they go to complete ****. Examples: Metallica, COB, CoF, Lamb of God, etc.

It really pisses me off the number of bands that do change their original sound that got so many fans in the first place. A major reason I think it's perfectly fine to be an "elitist".

Hate it or love it, Discuss it:

Corrosion of Conformity, Pantera, Anathema, Paradise Lost, Emperor, Death, Cathedral and probably many more would contradict TS's theory. While changed musical outputs may not be most pleasing to a fair number of their fans, in these bands' case I find that they material they changed to was also great, if not better than the material they originally played.

If a band wants to play a differetn style they should be allowed. Music is about personal expression, not pleasing an audience.

I'm not saying you have to like it, I'm saying bands shouldn't be taking criticism for legitimate creative decisions.

well yes if they still make good music! like Death, theyre style changed from spiritual to human and than to ITP! but they Chuck remained an artist. some bands instead of beeing artists make songs that sell!

I'd rather a band change their style then suffer from AC/DC syndrome.

That's a dumb question, you know everyone in here would buy it too. I know I would!

Bathory? No.

Bathory kind of became **** after Twilight of the Gods, but gained it back with Nordland 1 and 2.

TS fails on many, many levels.

There is nothing wrong with musical experimenting. You want stagnant, repetitive, boring, same song over and over? Any musical evolution in a band is something that I respect and encourage.

This thread lacks salt.
Dyer's Eve is awesome, and has an abnormally large penis, which doesn't act as any hinderance to his everyday life despite its freakishly large size.

Sorry TS, I reckon you just havent heard enough metal. Plenty of bands change their sound, be it by a large or small amount, it takes balls, and in many cases the new material is just as good as the older material.

Deicide, Black Sabbath, Emperor, Ulver, Pestilence, Bathory, Gorguts, Immolation, Napalm Death, Death, etc.

I want to try that while playing the opening riff to "Tempting Time".

Just look at Machine Head. They had an awesome thing going with Burn My Eyes, but they dared to change...

Thankfully, they changed once again after three records, which just proves that change is awesome.

You're an idiot. The More Things Change was closer to Burn My Eyes than any of their other records were, and that album pwns.

Admittedly, everything from 1999 onwards lacked.... a lot.

Yeah, that's a civilised tone. I forgot that no one in your pressence is allowed to have a goddamn opinion. I am sorry Your Majesty, obviously I have hurt you by listening to a record and forming an opinion of my own. Next time I feel like listening to music I'll just call you and ask what I should think of it.

I was thinking of listening to some At the Gates later, so stay tuned because I will probably need your guidance on that one!
