stairway to heaven and a bunch of black sabbath songs. First riff I ever tried to play was that stairway to heaven arpeggio, and I remember thinking it was the hardest thing I've ever done. I got that tab straight from UG, it's still usually in the top rankings.

Mastering your instrument is being able to play whatever you hear in your head, unhindered by inadequate technique. After that, it's all about what you've got to say, so there would be no "best," just a bunch of people saying exactly what they mean.

a lot of metallica, iron maiden, slayer, sabbath, some zeppelin, smells like teen sprit (like every other guitarist in existance), and impromptu blues (can credit that to growing up an hour from austin)

it only lasted so long, most of my improvement was after i started writing my own stuff.
