I have a Geddy Jazz with flats on it. They are of medium gauge, .045-.105. If I go to a lighter gauge such as .040-.095, what effects will it have on the action of my bass? Will I need to do a "set up" with the lighter gauge? As far as sound, will a lighter gauge effect the sound a lot? I usually play country, southern rock, and classic rock.. Haggard, Jennings, Hillman, Allman Brothers, Marshal Tucker, Hendrix, James Gang, etc. I would like to get a little more bend from my strings. Thanks.
shouldn't do much at all to your action, but you will need to set up your intonation, which can cause you need to change your action. I always recommend a set-up when changing string gauge. The FAQ has a guide on how to do it if you don't already know.
Thanks for the info.
