Desolder or cut the soldering joint that holds the cover to the base plate, you'll have to take the pickup out to do it. Honestly you'd be better leaving it on because of wax potting it looks like shit and can make a mess when little pieces break off.

I took the pick up covers my LP by cutting the solder and pulling them out with a screwdriver. If you heat the pick up in a bowl the wax can run off and they wont look gash. I, however, decided this would take too long and decided to scrape the wax off with a flathead screwdriver, my heavy handedness causing my to slip and gouge straight through the coils. Hence SD pick ups now fitted to guitar.

Yeah my dad took a blowtorch to it and the wax dissapeared quickly. It looks fine, it will suit fine until I get my Air Norton, I just didn't want a black pickup with a gold cover, people would make fun of me playing live haha.

Um. Theres nothing wrong with pickups that don't match...
I think it'd be cool to have an uncovered bridge and a covered neck.

I have EMGs in my LP and the other guitars all have stock pickups. No need to cover/uncover anything.
